Give, Grow and Garden With Greenstalk!

Give, Grow and Garden With Greenstalk! | angiethefreckledrose.com

Finding the space to grow a successful garden isn't always easy.  Planting in containers is a great solution to this problem.  Your average container may have room for a small number of plants, but certainly not a whole garden.  GreenStalk is a stackable garden system that allows you to save space and grow vertically.  This tower helps plants thrive with an internal slow drip watering system that keeps each cell watered evenly.

"Raise your gardening game by growing vertically!"

It is perfect for the beginner gardener who is ready to take their skills to the next level.  The innovative design allows you to stack lightweight tiers on top of each other.  Each tier has 6 separate pockets to plant in.  Depending on which size you choose, you can have up to 30 pockets to plant in.

It is made with nontoxic, BPA-free materials perfect for the organic gardener.  You can choose to grow anything from edibles to flowers. GreenStalk fits perfectly on any porch or patio, and can even be used indoors.  A product that's truly top spot worthy on any holiday wish list!

Growing With GreenStalk

I was eager to unbox my new gardening system upon arrival.  Since this portable growing tower isn't heavy, it was so simple to take it out of the package and get it ready to be set up.  I picked the 5 tier, 54 inch tall maple colored planter. It comes with watering disks for each tier and 1 top water reservoir that will make your life so much easier.  It also comes with an informative visual along with steps.  You can also purchase the 3 or 4 tiered options depending on your amount of space.  Along with maple color choice, you can choose stunning stone or black.

Unboxing my GreenStalk

The 5 tier planter holds 5 cubic feet of soil.  I headed out to my local home improvement store to purchase the amount I needed.  I also added some of my favorite lobster compost to keep my plants happy.  You can add this to your soil when planting flowers and vegetables.  The next step is my favorite part of gardening.

"You can grow whatever you want!"

It was time to pick out what I wanted to plant in this gorgeous new growing system, of course!  You can grow leafy greens, herbs, cucumbers, carrots and even potatoes.  I love how the pockets are deep.  If you decide to pick plants that have long roots, it won't be an issue.  They will have plenty of room to grow.  I decided I wanted to give strawberries a try.  I've had success with strawberries in hanging containers before, so I was hoping I could do it again!

I wanted to grow more than one variety of strawberry in my GreenStalk garden. I decided on Quinault & Loran. I've grown Quinault in the past, and they have always done very well in my area.  I live in zone 6a Massachusetts and experience very harsh winters.  Quinault is an everbearing variety that produces from late spring through fall.  It is a perennial plant in zones 4 to 9.

Loran is a new variety introduced this year.  It is a compact, early-bearing strawberry perfect for containers.  It doesn't produce many runners, so it's great for small spaces.  This hybrid is easy to grow and perfect for beginners. This strawberry is a biennial that will produce fruit for 2 years.

"Fresh strawberries, no digging required!"

Once my strawberries were planted, it was time to start stacking.  When assembling, you just make sure the feet are locked together and snapped in place.  This will keep it nice and sturdy.  The genius design really does come together in no time! Once you assemble and add the water reservoir on top, you can thoroughly water it in.  I made sure to clean out debris weekly so no holes were blocked and the water could run freely.

Taking up hardly any room in my fenced in vegetable garden

I was seriously impressed with this space-saving planter.  It took up barely any room in my already established, fenced in vegetable garden.  My vegetable garden is filled with raised beds and other containers.  My soil in this area is very rocky, so digging is a no-go.  I put it right up against my chicken wire fence.  GreenStalk was also kind enough to send me the spinner. The lazy-susan spinner sits at the very bottom and allows me to rotate my garden. This lets each side to get an equal amount of sun.  You can purchase the spinner here

No weeds!

Save Water, Save Money

This planter was built with quality and reliability in mind. The slow drip watering method doesn't let anything go to waste.  As it trickles down from the top, it distributes equally.  Your planter does all the work for you!  Your crops are less susceptible to rot and disease.  The roots get a healthy drink each and every time.

The top water reservoir gives each plant a drink while you sit back and relax

During the beginning of summer, I only had to water every couple of days.  My plants grew strong soaking up some rain and moderate temperatures.  I really enjoyed saving time and not having to worry about dry soil.

Strawberries ripening in May and June

Keeping up with the watering was definitely more challenging in the hotter months of the summer.  That had less to do with the planter, and more to do with the intense drought we experienced here in New England.  It's been years since we had a drought that severe.  Thankfully, because of GreenStalk, my plants continued to thrive.  I was so thrilled with how many berries my plants produced!  That's not including all of the ones the birds stole from me.  I may need to invest in some sort of netting.  My strawberries were so good, not even the birds could resist snacking on them!

Harvesting strawberries all throughout July & August

I was curious to see if it would keep up during the fall, and it did! It actually surpassed my expectations.  I have a small strawberry patch that I'm in the middle of relocating.  Those strawberries haven't set fruit since the summer.  It's also full of weeds.  The strawberries in my GreenStalk garden have been producing all the way into NOVEMBER!

Yes, you saw that correctly. I've never seen a strawberry growing during the month of November in this zone.  I was so thoroughly shocked, I thought I was seeing things.  They may be smaller now that it's colder, but they are still just as tasty! Now that the winter is almost here, I'm looking into covering it before the snow starts to fall.
