Monthly Musings On The Farm-December

Welcome back to the third edition of Monthly Musings On The Farm!  It has been a season of change here, with lots of chickens going to new homes.  In order to keep the amount of chickens and roosters at a number the town approves of, every year some must go.  Although it is hard saying goodbye to some, the new young chickens get to say hello to their first winter.  As the hours of daylight grow shorter, so do the hours of activity on the farm.

This December has been unusually warm with days still hitting 60 degrees.  Winter preparations have been fairly easy so far with no big threats of constant frost anytime soon.  Still no snow on the ground yet, and no need for the horses to wear their warm blankets.  The ducks and the geese have been taking advantage of the fact that the precipitation falling is still in liquid form.  Daily swimming expeditions ensue.  The chickens get to enjoy the unfrozen ground full of grubs.  And last but certainly not least, the goats get to play outside all day in the sun.  What could be better?  Come with me and enjoy some photographs from the mild winter here on the farm.
